The wise men of The Economic Council is now proposing that it should be cheaper to go to the dentist. In turn, the system must be financed by higher user fees when visiting a private doctor and the emergency room.
In the economic wise men efterårsrapport, which appeared 22. October 2009, gives the wise men their bid for a more equitable government support for healthcare.
“By splitting the brugerbetalingen out, you get less distortion of the state support. It is better to support two sites with 100 dollars than one place with 200 dollars, ” says a member of The Economic Council, Hans Jorgen Whitta-Jacobsen for Newspaq.
Avoid the dentist because of the price
Hans Jørgen Whitta-Jacobsen believes that some danes today fail to go to the dentist because it is too expensive, while there perhaps are too many, which caters to the emergency room – even with the small stuff – because it is free.
Hans Jørgen Whitta-Jacobsen, professor of economics, University of Copenhagen, stresses that the total user fees should not increase.
“Our recommendation is not to detract from the overall scope of user fees in the health sector. For it is a basic political premise,” he says.
