The national board of health has issued new guidelines, which means that dentists from today and three months forward are only dealing with critical patients. This means that regular inspection is cancelled.

The background are some new guidelines from the Danish Health and medicines authority, which describes how bl.a. dentists must deal with COVID-19 from today. The rules will have a duration from today the 17. march 2020 and probably through June 2020.

The new rules mean that the dentist must stop all non-critical treatments such as routine checkups and scalings. Dentists need to implement critical features such as the treatment of trauma in teeth and the mouth, pain, infections, rodbetændelse as well as severe cases of dental caries and periodontitis. It also applies to damage to the implants, bridges and fillings and ongoing bøjlebehandling.

Patients who have an acute tandbehandlingsbehov, but is under suspicion of infection with the COVID-19, should be referred to a private physician if the treatment can't wait.

”It is some drastic actions, which will have an impact on many people's dental health. But of course, we have the understanding that the authorities in the current Coronavirus epidemic must do everything they can to limit infection. Are you in doubt whether you should meet up with the dentist, you can call his dentist,” says chairman of the Tandlægeforeningen Susanne Kleist.
