Among the Norwegian Government's election promises was that it would extend the grant to increase public dental care.

This is partly done by making inquiries free of charge for persons over 75 years, and by possibly putting a cap on an upper user charge of DKK 3,000 per year, whereby the government provides full or partial subsidy for other expenses. The amount of DKK 3,000 is determined based on the fact that 80% of patients have an annual cost of dental care up to 3,000 kr

To ensure a geographically better dental coverage the Government is considering introducing a scheme which means that the general practitioner dentists receive a fixed amount per tonne. enrolled patients similar to that enjoyed by the general practitioners.

Grants for adult dental care in Norway is now defined as særomsorg because the grant does not cover the entire population, but only are given for dental treatment as a result of, among many other rare medical illness, lip-jaw-cleft palate and tooth damage related to the accident.

So far only the plans on the drawing board, but the government has as its overarching goal that the state should gradually assume greater responsibility for people's oral health.
